Grey College Boat Club (GCBC) is one of 16 college boat clubs at Durham University. The club was established in 1959 and has over 70 active members, we share our boathouse with Josephine Butler College Boat Club. The club competes at a regional and college level, taking part in events across the North East and London. We cater to all levels of rowing ability, from absolute beginners to the elites of rowing. Each Easter we have a training camp at Maidenhead Rowing Club where a lot of our rowers learn to scull and get the opportunity to try new boats. We also have a large social presence, holding regular social events through out the year, most notable are the annual ball in February and tour at the end of the year.
Seniors
We have separate men's and women's senior squads, consisting of around 20 members per squad. They train up to 6 times a week at the highest level. These squads compete in all manner of races throughout the year, targeting Rutherford Head, HORR/WEHORR and Durham Regatta. They have set training in VIII's and IV's and the option to train in singles, doubles and pairs. There is a subsection of the seniors for social rowers, they will usually train once a week on the water. Our senior squad is run by our Squad Captains, get to know them on the exec page.
Development Squad
Each year we take on about 40 members in the Development Squad to teach to row, they learn in our wooden IV's during first term then start to row in VIII's in second term, after Easter they join the senior squad. They target Novice Cup, Novice Head and Durham Regatta. The Dev Squad is run by our Vice Captains, get to know them on the exec page.
